Ryan Frew proudly enters his third season as the Head Coach and General
Manager of the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs, a charter member of the
Empire Junior Hockey League. In just his second year with the team last
season, the group made it to the Eastern Conference finals before losing in
third and final game, they finished 5th overall,
and posted a regular season record of 33-8-2-2, and an
overall record of 37-8-3. In
addition,
he had the honor of being named to the Empire All-Star team for the second
straight season. Frew and his Monarchs are coming off of a very successful
second year and the
head coach is optimistic about the group of talented players showing
interest in his program for the upcoming season.
Frew is a fourth year coach in the Monarchs organization, and during that
stretch has accumulated a 4-year record of 98-32-8-2 (.740% winning
percentage). In addition to his role with the New Hampshire Junior Monarchs,
he is also a manager at Tri-Town Ice Arena (NHJM home rink). He conducts
camps for the travel organizations and was recently named to the staff of
the Skills Sessions Staff, for the New Hampshire Jr. Monarchs Youth Program.
Frew is a Graduate of Southern New Hampshire University where he skated a
four-year career and recorded a Division 2 NCAA championship runner-up, 2
ECAC final appearances, an ECAC final four, and a P.A.L. Cup championship,
which ironically was played at Tri-Town Ice Arena. He played during a period
of time when the school posted an overall school record of 61-35-6. Plagued
by injuries in his short college career he appeared in just 74 games, and
recorded 46 points (25-21). He took a liking to his power forward role and
recorded over 170 PIMS in his career. A 1998 Graduate of Concord High School
where he still remains one of the top scorers of all time and represented
his hometown in the Make-a-Wish All-Star game, Frew's Crimson tide tallied
an astonishing record of 64-1 in three years at CHS. Frew was a member of
the New England Development Team Camp; and was selected as the 1998 Male
athlete of the year.
He resides in Manchester, New Hampshire. Frew holds a B.A. in Hospitality
Administration with a focus in Business Practices.
Assistant Coach: Nick Roussel
Roussel also attended Southern New Hampshire University and is currently
entering his third full season in the Junior Monarchs organization. He was
the goalie coach and volunteer assistant on Frew's last three teams. Nick
brings an unmatched passion and knowledge for the sport of hockey to the
team and his players are
constantly entertained by the vast amount of hockey trivia knowledge that he
shares.
Nick has served as a Goalie Instructor for the Rick Heinz Goalie School, he
was the goalie coach for New Hampton Prep while still attending college, and
he offers private lessons on the side. Nick had an unbelievable freshman
year at NHC where he posted a school record and lowest all-time GAA of under
1.84. In route to helping guide the Penmen through the playoffs and into the
National Championship game Roussel earned first team All-American honors.
Prior to his college career, Nick played two years at Central Catholic High
School in Lawrence, Mass. compiling an 8-0 record during that time. He
transferred to New Hampton Prep School after his sophomore year of high
school and earned the starting goaltender position for his final two years.
He was an All-New England Honorable Mention both years and served as the
backbone for two winning seasons and two New England Playoff births.
Roussel resides in Windham, New Hampshire and plans to stay an assistant
coach to Frew as long as he is welcome in the organization
